Hello, all! Below is a link I found out about from Facebook. It's a free online course offered by Stanford University, and it starts today, January 24, 2014! I registered along with a lot of other friends. The title of the course is International Women's Health & Human Rights. I'm excited! http://www.internationalwomenshealth.org/

So Why Are You Starting a Feminist Blog Anyway?

I have only three answers for why I'm starting a feminist blog: number one because I'm a feminist; number two because I'm a writer; and number three because I'm an activist. I used to read feminist articles online, and I thought to myself "Yeah, that's exactly what I think, too" or "This is so one of my feminist theories" or even "I could totally write a better feminist article than that." So, here I go with a feminist blog for all to see, comment, share, and learn.

Someone asked me one time "How and when did you become a feminist?" At that point, I really didn't know but thinking about it for a while, I did eventually figure it out. Taking a class (American Women's Literature) at Lackawanna College in Scranton, PA really made an impression on me. It didn't happen in one instance; like, I didn't read one A.W.L. story and say, "Oh, yeah, because of this I'm a feminist." It happened over the time of the course. And I wasn't even on the same "level" of feminism as I am now. It's continued to grow. One of the things I did was take the A.W.L. stories through a span of time (mostly Victorian) and tried to compare them to today. Some of them did compare; some of them didn't; and some of them related slightly. For instance, in one of the stories, it may have talked about women's rights. I could compare that to today because women are still only making 77 cents to a man's paycheck for equal work: "Women still earned only 77 cents for every dollar that men earned in 2012, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau." See the link for the rest of the article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/17/gender-wage-gap_n_3941180.html. I believe we very much still need feminists in today's world, especially when it comes to women's politics and the sexualization of women...even young girls. And MALE feminists! We need you, too! The issues of feminism are not only women's problems; they are men's problems, as well. They are SOCIETY'S problems.

I will try to post feministic posts on here as much as possible. Keep in mind I have a full-time job, a part-time job, another blog, a husband, a dog, and we are updating our house. For now, I have two posts so far, and I'm looking forward to writing feminist thoughts, articles, and discussions. Thank you, readers!

Definition of Feminism

To begin, let's get one thing straight...

Feminism:

A. "the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities"
B. "organized activity in support of women's rights and interests"

Why would any man or woman not consider himself or herself a feminist?
